Celebrating Where Eagles Dare 50th Anniversary screening

There’s little doubt about it, when it comes to a classic adventure film it is pretty hard to top Where Eagles Dare. Directed by Brian G. Hutton for MGM in 1969, the film continues to endure and fascinate. Thanks to the BFI (British Film Institute), the film’s popularity has been recognised and reflected by a special 50^th Anniversary screening on Saturday, January 26^th, 2019 at the National Film Theatre on London’s Southbank.

The film will be screened in its original 155min theatrical version without its overture and intermission that appeared in the roadshow version. In addition the evening will also feature a special Q&A session; guests are still to be announced. At this point I must thank the extremely helpful Liz Parkinson from the BFI press office. Liz has been marvellous in helping to arrange tickets for the Archive. Together, a dedicated group of us will be meeting up on the day to enjoy this occasion together. With friends coming from as far north as Scotland, as far west as Wales and as far south as Dorset, it’s a real testament to the love and continued pulling power of Where Eagles Dare. It seems that fans will travel from anywhere in order to see it in its full splendour on the big screen.

This was also confirmed by Liz who also informed me that the tickets (which went on sale Tuesday) sold amazingly well. At the time of writing this piece, there appears to be just 3 tickets left!
