It was last year that this enormous
collection of original Magnum Force press stills came up for auction. In all,
there was somewhere in the region of 120 10 x 8 photos, there were a couple of dupes
and even one which wasn’t from Magnum Force at all, but from the John Wayne cop
drama McQ (1974). Nevertheless, this was without doubt one of the largest collections
I have ever seen from Magnum Force. I have probably spent close to a year in
preserving a great deal of these (111) photos. On a closer inspection, there are many which are incredibly rare. They feature some wonderful publicity shots, a bit of artwork and perhaps best of all, a nice selection from the infamous deleted scenes. I have also included (at the top) a typical example of a 1973 Warner Brothers press folder, which would have probably housed a collection such as these back in the day. In 1973 Warner’s were also celebrating
their 50th Anniversary. – Other big films from the studio that year
included The Exorcist and Enter the Dragon. Because of this, a lot of the WB
publicity material carried the 50th Anniversary logo. This logo
appears on all of the stills in this collection.
