The Return of Butch Cassidy and the Kidd
The two American screen stars Clint Eastwood and Paul Newman meet by chance outside a motel in Tucson, Arizona, 1972. Their meeting was captured and went on to become a famous image, appearing in many books over several decades as well as a favourite for reproductions on postcards and commercial posters in and around the 70s.
The photos were of course taken by the late, great Terry O'Neill. Here at the Archive, fans have always expressed their love for these photos, so we have tried hard to collate as many as we can possibly find.
Paul Newman was in Tucson, Arizona at the time making the movie The Life and times of Judge Roy Bean for director John Huston. During the same time, Clint was also in Tucson and filming Joe Kidd for Universal Pictures and directed by John Sturges.
Whilst we have previously posted on this shoot before, (the last time being on 6th November 2015) and included various colour variants. I am now very happy to revisit the subject once again with 12 consecutive images from that same photo shoot. It’s great to finally feature these on the Archive. I hope you all enjoy them as much as we do.
