Rare 1956 7” vinyl The First Traveling Saleslady
Occasionally, something comes along which really catches you out. I was simply browsing some old vinyl, when from nowhere I spotted this little gem from 1956. The theme from The First Travelling Saleslady sung by The Lancers. Now I can understand why this wouldn’t mean a lot to a great deal of people, but for an Eastwood collector, and for one that collects Eastwood related vinyl, it was like unearthing a little gold nugget.
The First Travelling Saleslady was of course a very early film to feature Clint, and was made some 3 years prior to Rawhide. The RKO film starred Ginger Rogers, Barry Nelson, James Arness and Carol Channing and was directed by Arthur Lubin. I have to admit, I didn’t even realise that a single existed. Released on the famous Coral label, it even states that its from the RKO film. Finding a copy of this U.S. single was rare enough, but finding one here in the UK seemed almost impossible. Graded as Very Good, and in a generic sleeve (no picture sleeve was issued), it carries the Cat No 9-61665 and features the track Free on the B side.
It may be a little bit obscure for most fans, but thought I’d bring it here for those interested.
